When I post the book selection for tomorrow's Daily Practice, I'll talk about reading the book as a part of an assignment for an amazing training program I was blessed to be a part of many years ago. It changed my life and I thought I should tell you a bit about it ...
The New Generation Training Program (NGTP), was a program of Youth Service America from 1991 to 1998, that selected, trained, and graduated more than 250 of the top young professionals from the field of national and community service.
In its eight day course, 15 classes of NGTP participants focused on personal and professional mission development, community and public relations, program development, proposal writing, and organizational management. Each class developed a unique bond that continues to this day.
A community building curriculum designed for NGTP by trainers David Sawyer and Jennifer Sawyer (and lots of other wonderful people), helped participants understand group dynamics, improve communication and conflict resolution skills, and develop a profound appreciation for diversity.
Today, NGTP alumni are in leadership positions in their professions and their communities and remain powerful advocates for making service the common expectation and the common experience of all young people.
