Alright, so a very dear friend of mine, someone who I've known since college, shared with me a cool resource recently—PhilosophersNotes.
Now, I'm not usually in the business of plugging products here, but this is really different.
I love to read, especially those books with big ideas that I can apply in my life immediately. These days, however, I've let my schedule affect my reading time. So, when my buddy told me about this guy who has read and summarized 100 really cool books (many I've read and some are on my shelf right now), I thought I should check it out. What's different about this from other book summary services I've seen, is that he is super down-to-earth and focuses on both Big Ideas and Quotes from the authors. If you've ever seen me speak, you know i'm a quote guy, big-time.
Here's their formula:
He offers both written summaries and audio versions that I downloaded right onto my iPod. I've committed myself to listening to one a day. Then, when I find the books that really speak to me, I'll be even more motivated to make the time to read the whole thing.
It's quickly becoming a favorite part of the day just for me—a time to relax and reflect. I hope you'll check it out.
P.S. When I re-read what I just wrote, it sounds a bit like a commercial. Rest assured, I'm not getting paid to say any of this. :-)
